Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
Thank you to all the photographers who sent in their great images from the Wednesday walks. Many were worthy of the Photo of the Week title and the choice was difficult. This photo, taken by Janet Tyson, has a slightly different perspective and draws the eye across the inlet to the hills of Whitby. Please check below for some of the other contenders.
A Word from...
With the settled, mild weather of May and (most of) June we have been lulled into a false sense of security – our walks will go ahead. Well, Wednesday’s did – Pāuatahanui Inlet was the proverbial mill-pond. Nobody would have expected the Thursday team to head out, given the conditions, but it takes a lot to stop Christine and Duncan – they ventured out and about in Churton Park over 6.5km. However, Christine’s “indestructible” Blunt umbrella was a casualty – not engineered against a Wellington gale! A WhatsApp message arrived at 6.30 on Friday morning cancelling the walk – I suspect nobody had ventured from their bed in preparation. Fingers crossed it has all passed by before our first walks of July.
Reminder: It is Friday Drinks at the Johnsonville Club this coming Friday (July 3rd). Hope to see you there.

Walk Details for Wednesday July 1st
This Week’s Walks:
We are off to Porirua for walks within the suburbs of Kenepuru and Elsdon and a bit of the shopping area and, for some, a bit of foreshore.
PP Walk: A 4.99km loop walk taking in the new housing area at Kenepuru Landing, a bit of the commercial area and a return to the starting point in Raiha Street using a good quality track. There is a little bit of uphill. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: A 5.64km loop walk. From the starting point in Raiha Street the walk heads through to the commercial area using a good quality track, then along the coast of Porirua Harbour and back to the starting point via Elsdon. This also contains a bit of uphill. You can see the walk here.
FF Walk: A 6.66km loop walk. The walk is similar to the SS Walk, but heads off via a different street and along the coast further into Elsdon before returning to the Raiha Street starting point. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: For all three groups the parking is street side on both sides of Raiha Street starting in the area where the metal track from Colonial Knob meets Raiha Street. (See the maps.)
Coffee: We have told Columbus Coffee at Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua, that a number of us will be coming for coffee and perhaps a snack.

Mark your diaries now! There are two highlights to the CPCW social calendar. The first is coming up in July:
What: A friendly gathering including a buffet meal catered by Dunshea’s Deli (check out the menu here); raffles; a review of our walking year
Where: Johnsonville Bowling Club, 34 Frankmoore Avenue
When: 6.0pm Saturday July 25th
Cost: $47 per person; drinks available from the bar (not included in ticket cost). Bring along some coins to participate in the raffles.

Walking for the Week of June 22nd 2026:
There was a great turn-out of walkers on Wednesday to enjoy the scenery on the northern shores of the Pāuatahanui Inlet. Some great photos were submitted. The core group of two Thursday walkers managed to locate a spot sufficiently sheltered from the elements to take a photo proving their bravery.
