Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
Diana Young provided this week’s banner image. A shot taken in Scorching Bay on Friday’s walk that would surely be worthy of any tourism brochure for Wellington.
A Word from...
It is often the simple pleasures of life that bring the most enjoyment. This week Jane got an enormous amount of satisfaction planning a Friday walk on the Miramar Peninsula that took in as many flights of steps as possible. There are a lot of them in Miramar, Seatoun and Strathmore; all are steep, most are long!
Her planning also included arranging perfect walking weather followed by a picnic in the sun at Scorching Bay. The Thursday walkers also enjoyed great walking weather in Tawa under a crescent moon. Wednesday is probably best forgotten.
A few reminders:
1 If you are plotting your walking progress across the north island on the CPCW electronic map, remember to update your position regularly.
2 Trampers Meeting. Wednesday 29 April, 4pm at 8 Dormar Place. If you have not done so already RSVP to David.Pegram.nz@gmail.com
3 Drinks. Friday 1 May, 5pm at the Johnsonville Club
4 Anniversary Dinner. Saturday 25 July, Johnsonville Bowling Club.

This Week’s Walks:
A misread of the schedule had us incorrectly at Titahi Bay last Wednesday. However, as the walk was cancelled we end up correctly back on schedule. Thus we still head to Titahi Bay for this week’s three walks; so no traffic problems expected. The SS and FF walks are variations of walks done in the past. The PP walk is one we have done previously. However all three walks do not use the coastal tracks we use most often when walking in Titahi Bay, but instead keep to the beach, a couple of tracks and residential streets. Also all three walks do not use our usual parking at the Rowing Club, but instead use the parking at the northern end of Main Road where it turns into Bay Drive. These walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point which is the parking area in Bay Drive, Titahi Bay. A link to a plan of the general parking area is included under the parking heading.
PP: A 4.94km loop walk including the beach (or the track above the beach) and quite a few of the residential streets of Titahi Bay. There are no major climbs and there are shortcuts if needed. You can see the walk here.
SS: A 6.79km loop that does include some climbs but nothing too steep. It does include the beach (or the track above), then a track through some scrubby bush and then back through a maze of residential streets back to the carpark. Don’t you dare take the obvious shortcuts! You can see the walk here.
FF: A 7.73km loop walk similar to a reverse of the SS walk but also covers more ground. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the carpark at the northern end of Main Road where it turns into Bay Drive. There are quite a few marked angle parks which will probably need to be supplemented by kerbside parking on the nearby streets. A map of the general parking areas can be seen here.
Coffee: Coffee for all three groups is Columbus Coffee at Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua. They cope with us very well.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for May 2026 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Walking for the Week of April 20th 2026:
There were no drowned rats to be seen on Wednesday morning as David made the sensible decision to cancel the walks. But Thursday evening was a clear and crisp evening to allow the team to head out in Tawa. Friday dawned with a frost in parts of Churton Park and progressed to a stunning autumn day allowing a large group of 27 walkers in 3 groups to enjoy the hills of the Miramar Peninsula. Jane had plotted a route taking in as many steps as possible and followed this with a picnic on the beachfront of Scorching Bay.
Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz
