Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
This week’s photo, provided by Bill Gaudie, was taken on Wednesday’s FF stroll at the junction of the MacKenzie and Muritai Road tracks looking across the harbour to Matiu/Somes Island.
A Word from...
“He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.” (“What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.”)
As we approach our Anniversary Dinner, it is this whakataukī that comes to mind – what is CPCW without its members? We are the group that we are because of the individuals with great foresight who gathered in 2013 and took those first steps out and about in Churton Park; because of the enthusiasts in the background who plot walks, organise “away walks”, wrangle the finances or any of the other jobs that occur without thought because of the generosity of time and energy; and because of you all coming out on Wednesday mornings, Thursday evenings and Friday mornings to walk and to talk, to maintain fitness of both body and mind.
This is your final opportunity to come along and celebrate the spirit that makes CPCW – tickets to the dinner are available until Tuesday July 21st. Don’t miss out! See below…

Walk Details for Wednesday July 22nd
This Week’s Walks:
No problems with traffic this week with all walks starting at Churton Park New World carpark and heading around the local paths, walkways and roads. The walks start from the parking area at 9:20am.
PP Walk: A 3.50km loop walk around the local streets and finishing via the long valley track. There are a couple of hills to make up for the relatively short distance of the walk, but nothing too strenuous. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: A 6.05km loop walk starting with the long valley track and returning to the parking via several residential streets. The tracks are normally in good condition with good footing. You can see the walk here.
FF Walk: A 7.80km loop that heads via the streets of Churton Park as far as Johnsonville, then back via a different route. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is the Churton Park New World carpark. Please park well away from the shop entrances, leaving the parks closer to the entrances for shoppers.
Coffee: Nothing booked, but Simmer and Thyme are nearby.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for July 2026 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Walking for the Week of June 13th 2026:
On a second attempt, a small group of Wednesday walkers made it out to Eastbourne from where they trod the streets or hills on a mild morning. Despite the absence of a PP photo, there was a good representation of this group on Wednesday. Thursday night provided a calm evening for six walkers, accompanied by Red, to walk 5.8km from CP to Johnsonville return. And a magnificent Friday morning allowed Keith to lead a small group of six walkers up to Mt Climie – a walk of 11.3km, but with an ascent of 686 metres. Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz
