Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
This week’s banner image is a photo taken by Clint Davis on Friday’s walk at Butterfly Creek behind Eastbourne. Take a look at the photo below for a view of the whole image if you are viewing the newsletter on a desktop computer.
A Word from...
This week was the reminder that, as July slips into August, winter is most definitely not behind us. Those skiers among us will be rubbing their hands with glee. The hills around Mts McKerrow and Matthews, behind the eastern bays, held snow for a couple of days after the southerly blow but it had disappeared before Friday’s walk in the much lower hills behind Eastbourne.
A reminder, once again, to check out the Anniversary Dinner Photos. Thanks to Mike for his photography and to Keith for his time uploading the photos to the website.

Walk Details for Wednesday August 12th
This Week’s Walks:
One of our favourite suburbs for walking is Karori. This is where we will be heading this week. All are new walks, but basically variations of walks we have previously enjoyed. All walks will start from the designated parking at 9:20am
PP Walk: A 4.80km generally flat walk taking in the residential streets of Karori. There are several shortcuts available if any walkers don’t want to walk the whole distance. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: A 5.03km walk around the residential streets of Karori that includes some reasonable rises to make up for the fairly short walking distance. You can see the walk here.
FF Walk: A 5.33km walk which gets onto a short portion of the Sanctuary track and definitely includes some climbs. A bit shorter than usual. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is on the side of the road in the general area of 41 Messines Road and also utilising nearby Plymouth Street.
Coffee: Nothing has been booked, but there is a good café at Karori Park and also Chillax Expresso in the Crofton Downs shopping centre on the way home.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for August 2026 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Walking for the Week of August 3rd 2026:
The weather most certainly beat us on Wednesday. The occasional squall and temperatures which, with wind chill, were below zero. But Thursday night’s weather was more reasonable and Christine was joined by four others, and Red, for a 5.6km walk from Churton Park to Johnsonville and back. On Friday there were 10 people in two groups who headed into the hills behind Eastbourne and across to the Butterfly Creek picnic area on a walk plotted by Clint. In addition, Alison led a group of four on a slightly less hilly walk.
Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz Don’t worry about the size of the image – a good quality image at the outset will still look good when reduced in size for the newsletter, but a lower quality image may end up blurry in the newsletter.
