Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
The weather was not conducive to great photography this week so, in the interests of encouraging some better weather this coming week, I am using this great photo taken a few weeks back by Keith Thomas. It was taken on a Friday walk on the hills above Papakōwhai/Paremata looking out across Porirua Harbour. Here comes the sun…🤞🤞
A Word from...
It rained. It blew. It was cold. At one point I thought the score was going to be 3:0 to the weather vs CPCW! Of course, there was very, very little chance that the Thursday walkers would not venture forth – and Christine’s text came through, as usual, saying that a hard core group of 3 (+Red) headed into the howling southerly and walked 6.5km around Churton Park. One glove was lost on the walk, but this was found the next day on the Friday walk! Speaking of which, there were 15 walkers over the two groups who walked around Churton Park, Johnsonville and a small section of Broadmeadows to accrue almost 12km on a convoluted route drafted by Clint. Two others did a walk of their own design.
A reminder: We are now just two weeks away from the Anniversary Dinner and tickets are in hot demand. See below for details – including how to purchase your tickets.

This Week’s Walks:
As we have another week of the school holidays, we will have another attempt at our walks in Eastbourne. The walks are repeats of earlier visits to Eastbourne. The SS walkers are given a choice between a shorter walk that is up into the Eastbourne hills or a longer walk that is around the flatter streets. All walks start from the parking area at 9:20am.
PP Walk: A 4.09km loop walk taking in the flatter streets of Eastbourne. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: (Hill Choice) A 3.99km loop walk taking in the hilly bush tracks. The tracks are normally in good condition with good footing, however the tracks are definitely uphill in parts. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: (Flat Choice) A 5.34km flat walk around the residential streets of Eastbourne. You can see the walk here.
FF Walk: A 5.70km loop walk up and along the bush tracks within the Eastbourne Hills. Obviously some fairly steep uphills, but good quality tracks. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is on Muratai Road between Kauri Street and Konini Street and this can overflow into Kauri and Konini Streets if needed.
Coffee: Nothing is booked, but The Pavilion Cafe in Williams Park, Days Bay, is fairly large and convenient.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for July 2026 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.
