Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
There were some great banner images submitted this week. This one, taken by Stu Rowe, was taken on the Wednesday walk from the flanks of Mt Kaukau looking over Ngaio. Other images will appear in future newsletters.
A Word from...
David and Wayne are now in the northern hemisphere where they will be enjoying summer as it nears its zenith, while those of us back here relish the nadir! We wish them well for their respective competitions in the Games and know that they have prepared well.
They are both great exemplars of “active aging”, as are you all given your participation in CPCW walks (yes, I know that some of us think we are less aged than others!). If you struggle to motivate yourself on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday when the winter weather closes in, take a look at this link to a Stuff website and remind yourself of all the good you are doing.
What a great week! All CPCW walks were completed uneventfully in decent conditions; the All Whites (paradoxically wearing black!) played a great game against Iran on Tuesday; and the Hurricanes, in conditions reminiscent of their name, blitzed the opposition.
Our resident football guru, Keith, has spent many hours and much effort setting up the FIFA World Cup sweepstake. FIFA World Cup - The Next Step
The knock out round of the FIFA World Cup will kick off at 7am NZ time Monday 29 June involving 32 teams.

Multiple entries allowed. We need 16 entrants, or multiples thereof, in which case each entrant would be allocated 2 teams respectively. So if we have 32 entrants there will be 2 competitions of 16 with each entrant getting 2 teams. If we have 24 entrants there will be 1 pool of 16 and another of 8 with the pool of 8 getting half the prize money allocation shown below, but each entrant getting 4 teams.
Cost to enter is $5 per entry payable to the CPCW bank account – 02-0524-0233091-00. A/C Name: Churton Park Community Walkers.
The prize pool for a pool of 16 will be split as follows:
Winner $30; Runner-up $25; 3rd $15; 4th $10
The final teams will not be known until Sunday at around 4pm. The draw will take place at around 7pm .

Walk Details for Wednesday June 24th
This Week’s Walks:
Please note that this week the PP have a different parking area to the SS and FF. All walks will start from the designated parking sites at 9:20am.
The walks this week are based on a request from a longstanding walker. His request is for a walk from the Camborne area along the Pāuatahanui Inlet to Motukaraka Point. Motukaraka Point is one of several areas that served as a camp for the US Marines during WWII.
PP Walk: A 4.09km there and back walk on the board walk that starts at the carpark in Motukaraka Point and follows the coast to a carpark containing the Jet Sport Clubrooms and then returns by the same route. On this very flat journey the walkers will meet both the SS and FF going the other way. You can see the walk here.
SS Walk: A 5.32km there and back walk that starts at the Jet Sport carpark and heads towards Motukaraka Point, includes a clockwise loop of the point and returns to the starting point. There is a short section of about 350m where the walk is on the shoulder of Grays Road. Single file in this section is advised. The walk faces fairly light oncoming traffic, but there is a solid white line to keep vehicles to their lane and this, with the shoulder, ensures that there is plenty of room to be well clear of such traffic. The rest of the walk is well away from trafficked areas. You can see the walk here.
FF Walk: The same walk as the SS walkers, but there is a little warm up circuit first which does mean a little bit of hill climbing on a reasonable track. The walk then heads onwards to Motukaraka Point and back to the cars. The walk is 7.57km. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: The SS and FF parking is in the carpark at the point where Grays Road meets the waters of Pāuatahanui Inlet – this is at the Jet Sport Clubrooms. It is also the starting point shown on the maps. We should be able to fit all vehicles here. If that proves not to be the case, because of others beating us to this parking area, then we will use Plan B. This will be readily actioned on the day if necessary.
The PP parking is alongside the toilet block in Motukaraka Point which is a bit further along Grays Road heading from Paremata towards Pāuatahanui and, of course, is the starting point for the PP walk.
Coffee: We have told Columbus Coffee at Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua, that a number of us will be coming for coffee and perhaps a snack.

Walking for the Week of June 15th 2026:
The SS and FF groups explored the new Korimako Track on the flanks of Mt Kaukau and other streets of Khandallah and Ngaio. The PP group walked around Khandallah starting out from Nairnville Park. On Thursday the group walked to Johnsonville and back from Churton Park with the goal of checking out the newly reopened Johnsonville McDonalds. In case you were wondering, they can attest that it is now operating as usual. Friday’s walkers were led out on a glorious winter morning by Keith to explore parts of Aotea and Porirua, including Bothamley Park.
