Photo of the Week

Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.

This week’s photo was taken by Bill on the Friday walk during the ascent of Mt Kaukau.

A Word from...

This week the walks score was two out of three, which given the appalling weather around the country was a very good outcome.  We walked in Khandallah on Wednesday and a loop on Kaukau/Crofton Downs/Ngaio on Friday.  The Thursday evening walkers very sensibly decided to stay snug indoors on a foul evening.

This coming week’s walk has been changed from Battle Hill to Khandallah because of the fuel crisis.  If fuel prices do not come down soon, or the availability of fuel is restricted, we will review the schedule and consider omitting walks which require us to travel further afield.  In the meantime, car pool as much as possible.

A Reminder:  If you are plotting your walking progress across the North Island bring your latest tally to coffee on Wednesday so that you can put your pin in the map.

Walk details for Wednesday April 1st.

This Week’s Walks:  The schedule shows this week’s Wednesday walks at Battle Hill.  However, there is a general reluctance to take on unnecessary travel with the ever increasing price of fuel, together with the prospects of shortages.  Thus we have decided to return to Khandallah for this week’s walks.  The SS walkers can be assured that the walk does not include a hill as large and as steep as the last visit to Khandallah!

PP:  A loop walk of 3.97km.  All on footpaths.  All hills are only gentle rises.   You can see the walk here.

SS:  A 5.39km loop.  Similar to the PP walk, but further distance and a little more undulating. You can see the walk here.

FF:   A 6.41km loop that does include quite a few steps. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and Plotaroute here.

Parking:  Parking is in our usual spot in Nairnville Park car park and the adjoining streets.

Coffee:  Nothing has been organised this week, so it is walker’s choice with cafés in Khandallah, Ngaio and Johnsonville on the way home and, of course, Simmer and Thyme back at Churton Park.

Happy walking.

Russell Paterson
