Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
This week’s well-framed photo was taken by Gordon Balfour on the Friday walk along the Paekākāriki Escarpment.
A Word from...
This has been another full week of walks for the Churton Park Walkers. On Wednesday we were walking in Linden/Kenepuru/Porirua; on Thursday in Ngaio; and on Friday along the escarpment between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay. As always, a huge ‘thank you’ to those who research and plot our walks and to those who lead them.
Other activities this week included our monthly drinks on Friday and 8 people from the tramping branch of the CPCW completing the Pouakai Circuit in Taranaki in sparkling weather. I am pleased to report that apart from a few muscle aches the trampers all returned safe and mainly sound (see confidential note below).
If you are plotting your progress across the North Island this year there will be an opportunity to update your position on the map at coffee on Wednesday.
Confidential
Please do not pass on the following information. When you see Bill on Wednesday or Friday you may notice a small wound on his head. Thankfully it is healing well. Please, please, please, under no circumstances, talk to him about this. The injury occurred in very embarrassing circumstances and the incident is best left in the ‘long-drop’ at Holly Hut.

Walk details for Wednesday March 11th
This Week’s Walks:
Whitby this week and most are walks in Whitby which we have completed previously, all prepared by Andy Dunn.
PP: A loop walk of 3.69km all on footpaths and walkways taking in the two Whitby Lakes. All at reasonably easy gradients. You can see the walk here.
SS: A 6.53km loop using the walkways and footpaths of Whitby; nothing too steep. You can see the walk here.
FF: An 8.41km loop walk, similar to the SS’s walk, but a bit further. Nothing too steep. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking is in our usual spot which is in the Adventure Park Car Park just across the road from the shopping centre and accessed off Discovery Drive.
Coffee: Coffee will be at Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua. They seem to deal with our numbers very well. We will advise them that a group of us will be arriving.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for March 2026 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.
