Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
This week’s photo was taken by Clint Davis on Friday’s walk through the Belmont Regional Park. The view shows Pāuatahanui Inlet with Mana/Camborne in the background.
A word from...
This week saw Churton Park Walkers roaming the streets and tracks of Tawa on Wednesday, walking locally on Thursday and traversing Belmont Regional Park on Friday. We have been blessed with good weather yet again. Fingers are now crossed for our final Wednesday walk next week.
There has been a great response to the 2026 Away Walk based in Whangārei. The hotel where we are staying is quite large and still has units available, so if you haven’t booked yet there is still time. Once you have made a booking, can you let me know so that I have a record of who is going?

Walking Log
Another reminder about the personal walking log for 2026, totalling the distance walked week by week with the Churton Park Community Walkers. The log allows members to record their progress on an imaginary route of their choosing, selecting a destination within the North Island. The destinations are Masterton (101km), Palmerston North (143km), Whanganui (184km), Napier (307km), Taupo (362km) or Hamilton (512km). Participants will be able to share their progress from time to time with a pin on a North Island map. There will also be some extravagant spot prizes. This is not a competition or a race, but simply an opportunity to observe and enjoy each other’s walking achievements during the year. If you would like a blank log chart please email David (David.Pegram.nz@gmail.com). See examples below.
Walk details for Wednesday December 17th
This Week’s Walks: The walks this coming Wednesday are the last organised Wednesday walks for the year. To avoid all the rush that goes with Christmas we are keeping these walks close to home – all walks are in our neighbouring suburb of Khandallah.
The three walks will all start from the Nairnville Park carpark at 9:20am.
PPs: A 5.24km loop walk around some of the not too steep streets of Khandallah. The walk can be shortened on the go if walkers so decide. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 6.17km loop walk, also around some of the not too steep streets of Khandallah, but including a few that are a little steeper. Possible to shorten, but keep it quiet if you do! You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.07km loop walk that takes in both the flatter and steeper streets of Khandallah. No short cuts allowed. Includes some hills. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and Plotaroute here.
Parking: The parking is in the Nairnville Park carpark and adjoining streets.
Coffee: Nothing organised, but there are a couple of cafés in Khandallah and, of course, there are Simmer and Thyme back in Churton Park.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for December 2025 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Wednesday Walkers
Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz.
Wednesday’s walkers headed out on the streets and tracks of Tawa.
Thursday Walkers
The team on Thursday stayed local for their walk around Churton Park. Thank you, Gillian Mills, for the photo.
Friday Walkers
Brian Alderson co-ordinated the Friday walk and led the group along a 14.3km trek including ups and downs over 670m. Apparently, strong southerlies battered the walkers along the tops of the hills. There were concerns that lighter members of the group were at risk of taking flight – but what views they would have enjoyed!
