Photo of the Week

Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.

This week’s photo was taken by Hue Ng on Wednesday’s walk.  It shows the view from Whitireia Park looking over Titahi Bay to the boat sheds and beyond.

A word from...

It has been another full week of walking in fairly pleasant spring weather. The Wednesday walks were on familiar territory in Whitireia Park and Titahi Bay and were enjoyable, as ever. The Thursday walkers ventured up the track from Mark Avenue to Horokiwi Road and the Friday walkers were hot on their heels, retracing the Thursday Walkers’ steps and carrying on, in two different groups on two different routes, to the Belmont Trig. The trig is also familiar territory, but the stunning views over Wellington and the harbour never fail to impress…….and the wind never fails to howl! Thanks to our walk organisers who, week after week, plan and plot such lovely walks for us all.

Walk details for Wednesday November 19th

This Week’s Walks:  We head to the suburb of Northland this week.  The walks are all new, but cover areas that we have walked before, but using different streets.  The walks are all on good surfaces and avoid bush tracks.

The three walks will start from Ian Galloway Park at 9:20am.

PPs:  A 4.36km loop around the streets.  Some of the walk will be up Northland’s hilly streets, but not too testing overall    You can see the walk here.

SSs:  A 5.07km walk heading further up into the Northland hills along the reasonably graded ridges and back down the hills to the start point.  The hills make up for the slightly shorter distance. You can see the walk here.

FFs:  A 7.21km loop walk, also heading up into the Northland hills, and around and about and back down the hills. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and Plotaroute here.

Parking:  The parking is in Walworth Road which is the street that bisects Ian Galloway Park in Northland (off Curtis Street).

Coffee:  Nothing has been organised, but there are cafés in Crofton Downs, Ngaio, Khandallah and Johnsonville on the way home – and Simmer and Thyme back home.

Happy walking.

Russell Paterson

Thursday Walkers

Out and about on the hills above Mark Avenue, the Thursday team were photographed in various poses by Matt Fawkes.  Some very moody skies in the background.
