This week's image
This week’s image is provided by Bill Gaudie and shows a view over Ngaio with Nairnville Park identifiable in the centre of the image. The photo was taken at the ridge at the top of Bell’s Track on Mt Kaukau.
From the editor
This week I am delighted to welcome you all to CPCW’s new website. Many hours of hard graft have been expended by our Treasurer and Tech-Guru, Keith Thomas, to create the new website. CPCW is also very grateful to Little Monkey, Churton Park’s very own software developer. Little Monkey are sponsors of CPCW and kindly host our site at no cost to the group. Take a look around the site – Keith has some great photos, though I am not sure that the mug-shots of the committee are amongst them!
CPCW also owes a huge debt of gratitude to Peter Nalder who developed our original website and, for the years since, has hosted the site at no cost to us. Peter has done a lot for CPCW over the years, but he has done so in his inimitably quiet manner – and you have probably been oblivious to his contribution. We acknowledge and thank you for all your work and your generosity, Peter.
As I learn to navigate this new software I ask that you are patient. The software provides us with much greater flexibility, but that means there is much more to learn – and I shall inevitably stumble (a bit like on a Friday walk!).
If you have a Bookmark for the old CPCW site, then I recommend that you delete it and replace it with this new site
Disclaimer: I take all responsibility for any oddities in layout of the Newsletter where I have taken a step too far and lost what was previously set out perfectly by Keith – sometimes, in the interests of getting the newsletter out before 2026, I must accept something that is less than perfect! Hopefully, in the next newsletter I will get it sorted!

Last week's walks
There were 2 PPs, 32 SSs and 18 FFs who strode out on Wednesday’s walks around Aotea and Bothamley Park on a pleasant spring morning. Walkers managed 4.4, 5.3 and 8.0km respectively.
The weather was a little threatening for Friday’s two groups totalling 16 walkers who were led up and about on Mt Kaukau by Gary Dick, but the weather remained under control. Gary’s walk led his team along tracks and streets totalling 13.7km and up and down over 600+ metres. The walk included part of the Korimako Track which is a work in progress and will surely find its way into a Wednesday walk.
Between these two days, Thursday’s walkers gave no thought at all to the weather as they enjoyed dinner at The Inn Keeper in Johnsonville to celebrate their 12th anniversary. Well done to the members of this group.

Walk Details for Wednesday 17th September 2025
This Week’s Walks: All walks this week start in the carpark of The Outlet City, Tawa (the old DressMart). The PPs have a walk that they have done previously, but a couple of years ago, and the FFs and SSs have new walks but they probably cover areas that we have walked in previous years.
The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.
PPs: A 4.43 km loop. A generally flat walk, but there is at least one hill. The walk is on footpaths and walkways. No mud! You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 5.92km loop that takes in footpaths and walkways. The walk is a combination of the rolling residential streets on the western side of Tawa and the flatter area on the eastern side of Tawa. The walk is mainly on footpaths and also the odd walkway or two. You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.87 km loop also on footpaths and good quality tracks. It includes the rolling residential areas on both sides of Tawa. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the Outlet Centre carpark. Please park away from the main door and congregate in the general parking area near the carwash.
Coffee: Coffee for all three groups is at Gloria Jean’s in the Outlet City, Tawa. They will be notified that a number of us will be calling in for coffee and perhaps a snack.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for September 2025 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

CPCW Photos
Thanks to Rowena Rowe for providing these two photos of members of CPCW gathering for the Wednesday walk. This week’s walks took us out and around Aotea and Bothamley Park. Rowena also captured the two subsequent images of the SSs posed and striding forth.
Wednesday’s FF group were photographed by Bill Gaudie:
Gillian Mills provided the photo of the Thursday walking group members in an uncharacteristically sedentary pose as they enjoyed dinner together at The Inn Keeper.
The first 3 photos in the next collection are of the earlier of the two Friday groups and were taken by John Houghton and Wendy Bentley. They were both determined to prove that they did take the side path to the trip on Mt Kaukau! The second group were, as always, hard to keep in one place – always itching to move on! Those 3 photos were taken by Bill Gaudie.
