Photo of the Week

Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.

Rowena Rowe took this photo of the harbour capital during the Wednesday walks in Brooklyn.

A Word from...

Churton Park Walkers were out in force this week, Barrelling around Brooklyn on a Brilliant Wednesday morning; Cruising Purposefully in Churton Park on a Cool Thursday evening; and Hurrying Happily along the Hutt River on Friday morning.

It’s easy to forget how much time and effort goes into planning and documenting our walks, week in and week out, by a small group of people. Our walking group would simply not function without this dedicated team and I thank them wholeheartedly for their unstinting work.

Walk details for Wednesday April 22nd

This Week’s Walks:

We head to Titahi Bay for this week’s three walks; so no traffic problems are expected.  The SS and FF walks are variations of walks done in the past.  The PP walk is one we have done previously. However, all three walks do not use the coastal tracks we use most often when walking in Titahi Bay, but instead keep to the beach, a couple of tracks and residential streets.  Also, all three walks do not use our usual parking at the Rowing Club, but instead use the parking at the northern end of Main Road where it turns into Bay Drive.  These walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point which is the parking area in Bay Drive, Titahi Bay. A link to a plan of the general parking area is included under the parking heading below.

PP:  A 4.94km loop walk including the beach (or the track above the beach) and quite a few of the residential streets of Titahi Bay.  There are no major climbs and there are shortcuts if needed.  You can see the walk here.

SS:  A 6.79km loop that does include some climbs, but nothing too steep.  It does include the beach (or the track above), then a track through some scrubby bush and then back through a maze of residential streets to the carpark.  Don’t you dare take the obvious shortcuts!  You can see the walk here.

FF:  A 7.73km loop walk similar to a reverse of the SS walk, but also covers more ground. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.

Parking:  Parking for all three groups is in the carpark at the northern end of Main Road where it turns into Bay Drive.  There are quite a few marked angle parks which will probably need to be supplemented by kerbside parking on the nearby streets.  A map of the general parking areas can be seen here.

Coffee:  Coffee for all three groups is Columbus Coffee at Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua.  They cope with us very well.

Happy walking.

Russell Paterson

Walking for the Week of April 13th 2026:

David has most eloquently described the various walks of this past week.  So no more words needed – just the photos!

Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz

Wednesday Walkers:

Our PPs were photographed this week by Rowena - meaning Mike, usually behind the camera, features in the photo for a change.
Rowena also caught the group gathering ahead of the walks. What a glorious autumn day.
The FFs were caught by Bill. Jane is doing her best to obscure Keith from the photo - revenge for his touch of image manipulation last week! See below for more...
The photos above and below were also taken by Bill - from the rooftop UHF TV aerial, to the pylon to the turbine.

Thursday Walkers:

Hue kindly provided this photo of the Thursday team who appear to be out looking for their fast food fix! Red looks somewhat ghostly...

Friday Walkers:

This photo was in last week's newsletter - taken on the Friday walk to the giant northern rata. With some mischievous photo editing, Jane was removed from the photo (Where's Wally?). A little bit of media disinformation? The camera does not lie? Below is the original image. Thanks to Keith for both photos - and to Jane for being such a good sport!.
Wendy kindly provided this photo of the earlier Friday group on this week's walk in Upper Hutt. There is nothing quite like an obliging passer-by!
Unfortunately, there were no passers-by when the photos were taken of the later group by Clint (above) and Bill (below). Bill also took the photo of the children on the swings - just as well our walking keeps us trim!
