Photo of the Week
Each week we will post an image taken by one of our walkers of a scene they spotted on a walk. Generally these images should not include photos of any walkers. Please send any images to info@cpcw.co.nz noting photo of the week in the subject line.
This week’s photo was taken by Hue Ng on Friday’s walk along the Southern Walkway and looking east over Lyall Bay.
Words from...
Our Convenor:
Once again, the Churton Park Walkers made their presence felt across Wellington, walking in Karori on Wednesday, Porirua on Thursday, strung out along the Southern Walkway on Friday morning and drinking and eating in Johnsonville on Friday evening.
Keep those walking logs going ready for the first pins in the map at the end of the month and, in addition, you can also record your progress on the CPCW website. Instructions for this below. If you are having any difficulty someone will be able to help you out at coffee on Wednesday.
David Pegram
Our Treasurer/Website Administrator:
Another reminder of how to access the online alternative to record your CPCW walking for 2026: In addition to the map that David will pin at the regular Friday drinks, we have found a way to have a record of the map on our website. For both maps, walkers will need to submit their walking data at the end of each month by completing a simple form on the website. The only pieces of information required will be your name (taken from a dropdown box) and the distance you have travelled within a range (again from a dropdown box). Once all the data has been received it will appear on a map on the website.
To see how it will look you can click here to see a map containing real names, but fictitious data. Click on the top left of the map and you will see a list of people. Click a person and you will see that person’s position on the map along with their goal. Alternatively, click a pin and the same data appears.
What do I need to do now?
Now you need to set your goal and submit your first entry.
For the first entry you will need to enter your name in the boxes on the form on the website. You will also need to enter your goal from a dropdown list. (For subsequent months your name will also be available from a dropdown box.)
Lastly, you will need to enter how far you have walked in January using the appropriate range from the dropdown box, using the dropdown box appropriate to your goal. You’ll get this information from your log sheets. You can enter your partner/spouse information on the same form, or it can be done separately. You can do all of that here .
And that’s it! Enjoy your walking towards whatever goal you choose.

This Week’s Walks:
The schedule has been ignored this week to keep us closer to home for a change. Thus all walks start in Seton Nossiter Park (Paparangi). These walks do use tracks as well as streets. Normally these tracks are in good order and easily followed. There is no reason to believe that this has changed and to assist safety the SSs and PPs go up these and head back via streets. The PPs have an obvious short-cut, but hopefully all will do the full walk. These are all walks we have done before, but may have been reversed.
PPs: A 3.66km loop walk heading up the main track and then back to the cars using the streets. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 6.01km loop walk that veers off the main track that the PPs are using, then heads around a few streets and heads back to the main track which returns to the cars. You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.55km loop walk that heads up the streets and returns all the way back to the cars. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and Plotaroute here.
Parking: The parking is both within the Seton Nossiter Carpark and along Mark Avenue either side of the entrance to the Seton Nossiter Carpark. This is parking that we have used several times in the past. Should be plenty of parking for all of us.
Coffee: We have not booked coffee, but there are, of course, Simmer and Thyme back home.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for February 2026 here.

Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Walking for the Week of February 4th 2026:
A fine day on Wednesday saw a good-sized group gather in Karori before they headed off in different directions around this large suburb. It is remarkable how Russell can always find new streets/tracks to explore.
The Thursday Twilight Explorers, as newly named by Hue, headed north to explore Bothamley Park in Porirua. The photos suggest that they had a bit of fun along the way.
Numbers on Friday’s walk were approaching normal, though a few regular members were still away. As it was Waitangi Day, walkers enjoyed free public transport into the Wellington Railway Station where they gathered to set off in two group around the waterfront to Oriental Bay and then up Mt Victoria and along the southern walkway to Houghton Bay. One or two steep ascents were enjoyed(?). The walk finished with a stroll around the coast – yes, they were that brave and, fortunately, noted only a brief aroma in Houghton Bay! – and finished at the Empire Cinema Café where they rewarded themselves with food and drink before catching the bus home from outside the café.
Please try and remember to take a group photo and send it to info@cpcw.co.nz
