This week's image
This week’s image was taken by Bill Gaudie on the Wednesday walk around the tracks in the Gilberd Bush Reserve in Newlands.
Last week's walks
Walkers had a great day’s weather on Wednesday with 10 PPs, 25 SSs and 21 FFs heading out from Ladbrooke Drive in Newlands and enjoying different parts of the Gilberd Bush Reserve. Great views were enjoyed. Weather on Thursday evening was not quite so obliging and there were only a hardy two walkers (+ Red, of course!) who ventured out around Churton Park. By Friday morning the weather had deteriorated further and Friday’s walk was cancelled.
Walk details for Wednesday October 15th
This Week’s Walks: Whitby is the location for this week’s Wednesday walks. All walks are thanks to Andy Dunn. We attempted to complete these walks in August, but the weather did not play its part and they were cancelled. Let’s hope we are luckier this time. The walk’s convenor thought that the original SS walk was a little short, so now the SS walkers have a choice of a longer walk (7.19km) or the original shorter walk (4.99km)
The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.
PPs: A 4.01 km loop. Reasonably easy grades and generally good surfaces. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 4.99km shorter walk or a longer 7.19km walk. You can see this shorter walk here and the longer 7.19 km walk here.
FFs: An 8.34 km loop walk, mainly on undulating walking tracks. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on PlotaRoute here.
Parking: Parking is in our usual Whitby Parking area in the Adventure Park carpark. (This is off Discovery Drive and opposite the Whitby Village Shopping Area.)
Coffee: We have informed Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua, that a number of us will be coming for a coffee and maybe a snack.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
Walk Schedules: You can look at the walk schedule for October 2025 here.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Cancellations: If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Wednesday Walkers
Walkers gathering on Wednesday were captured by Rowena Rowe who also provided the two subsequent photos of the SSs en route. Unfortunately, we do not have a photo of the PPs this week.
Photos of the second group of SSs are courtesy of Janet Tyson.
Thanks to Hue Ng for the two photos of the FFs
Thursday & Friday Walkers
I suspect that the weather did not allow our two intrepid Thursday walkers to stop for a photo and it seems that Red was not wearing his GoPro! No photos from Friday as the walk was cancelled.
